Mold is never something you want to have growing inside your home, and most homeowners go to great lengths to prevent this from happening. One area of the home where mold can develop is carpeting. Let’s discuss this subject a little more.

It is good to be aware of the potential for mold growth in carpets because it can help you decide where to install it in your home and where not to. One problem with carpet mold is that it can go undetected for some time. In fact, you may only start to notice the mold when it has become a more severe case. You also want to remember that mold loves a damp, humid environment, this means that you may not want to install carpet in rooms that are prone to humidity and moisture intrusion, such as the basement or bathroom.

How can you check the carpets already in your home for mold? You will want to lift a section of carpet and look at the underside of it, be sure to check the carpet padding as well. If you find mold, it is important to determine how much of the carpet has been affected. If the mold patch is only covering a small area, it can generally be remedied with a thorough cleaning. However, if the mold is covering a much larger section of carpet, or has been flooded and stayed wet for longer than 24 hours, it is usually best to remove the carpet altogether and replace it with a different type of flooring.
